While females fans waited for hours (even days) to catch a glimpse of Joe, Kevin and Nick Jonas, it was fallen (and perhaps comeback queen of the night) popstar Britney Spears that they wanted to see most at this year’s MTV VMA’s. Although the simultaneously precocious and precious Jonas trio hoped to introduce Ms. Spears, they settled for meeting her back stage and couldn’t be happier. This was the definite highlight of the night for the Jonas Brothers, while some snide remarks about their chastity by British host Russell Brand was defiantly not their favorite moment.
The Jonas Brothers are undeniably the Hanson of the new millennium (albeit more rock and less pop). Comprised of Joseph, Kevin and Nicholas Jonas, the band of brothers hail from New Jersey, where the siblings first got their musical start at an early age. Nicholas, the youngest of the trio, began a career on Broadway at the tender age of seven before impressing Columbia Records execs into offering him the opportunity to write a solo album. He enlisted the help of older brothers Joseph and Kevin to help him write material for his album and they were signed as a group in 2005. It’s About Time, the Jonas Brothers’ full-length debut album, was issued by Columbia in August 2006 and peaked at number 91 on the Billboard charts. The album, which featured songwriting by Desmond Child and Fountain’s of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger, garnered the Jonas Brothers fans who listened to them on Radio Disney.

The Disney connection proved fruitful, as Columbia dropped the group (boy do they regret it now!) in 2007 and they signed with the Disney-owned Hollywood Records soon after. In August of 2007 the Jonas Brothers released their eponymous sophomore album, which was supported by appearances on various Disney Channel television programs. The Disney fans showed up for the Jonas Brothers’ sold out shows around the country to support their second album and the group claimed the title of the fastest sold-out show at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles. The Disney machine that catapulted stars like Hilary Duff and her nemesis Lindsay Lohan worked in the Jonas Brothers’ favor as well; they starred in the reality television show Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream and Disney’s made-for-TV movie Camp Rock was also wildly successful. 8.9 million viewers tuned in to watch Joseph, Kevin and Nicholas Jonas (along with up-and-comer Demi Lovato) in Camp Rock and Jonas Brothers Tickets continued to be a hot commodity among female (and male!) fans of all ages.
The Jonas Brothers’ issued their next single, “Burnin’ Up” hot on the heels of their television successes and later on in 2008 they satisfied their fans never-ending desire for all things Jonas with A Little Bit Longer.
